Ex-Hibs ace relishing final with Hamilton Accies - it might be the only one he gets to

Scott Martin intends to savour the SPFL Trust Trophy final on Sunday, because it might be the only one he plays in.

Martin was a youngster at Hibs when they beat Rangers to the 2016 Scottish Cup, and while he doesn’t feel hard done-by on that occasion, he hopes Hamilton Accies can beat Championship rivals Raith Rovers to lift silverware at Falkirk.

The midfield ace said: “This opportunity might not come again – it might be my only final.

“I want to savour it and make the most of it, and all the boys will be the same.

“We have to give ourselves the best platform to go and win it.

“It would give us a massive boost if we win it, not just for us, but the town.

“The fans are buzzing for it, and we need them on our side.

“For our family and friends it is a big occasion and if we win, it will give everyone a boost.

“Maybe that’s what we need to stay in the league, as that is our main objective.”

Martin, 25, is eligible for the game though suspended for next weekend’s Championship clash at Dundee, and hopes he can help Accies to their first win in the competition since 1992.

He said: “This game is massive, but it wont really sink in how big it is until after the game.

“You don’t get many opportunities to win something in football.

“I was involved in the Hibs league win, but I was only a small part of it, not someone who played 30-odd games.

“You have to enjoy days like this. Cup finals are always great occasions for everyone involved, and we have to try our best to win it.”

Martin, who has been at Accies since 2018, says he will try to help younger lads through the game in the same way the first-team players did for him at Hibs.
