Scotland leave Virgil van Dijk pinching himself as Liverpool skipper fears 'punishment' if they do THAT again

Virgil van Dijk reckons Germany will destroy the Dutch if they play like they did against Scotland - admitting it WASN'T a 4-0 game in Amsterdam.

Steve Clarke's team went toe to toe with the Netherlands for the vast majority of the game on Friday night and only Tiijani Reijnders' stunner separated the teams with 20 minutes to go. But eventually the Scots were made to pay for their profligacy as after Lawrence Shankland missed the best chance of the game, Gini Wijnaldum doubled the lead - and then the Dutch ran riot.

Liverpool skipper Van Dijk was a relieved man and he admitted 4-0 was harsh on Scotland. And he reckons Germany, who they play on Tuesday at the same time Clarke's team take on Northern Ireland, will punish them if they play like that again. He said: "There are many areas for improvement. It wasn't really a 4-0. We keep a clean sheet, but it was a very tough game. If we play like this on Tuesday against Germany, we will be punished.

"Scotland put us under a lot of pressure, but we can simply play football against it with our qualities. It is a lesson for the European Championship because there it is only about the points. But in terms of playing football, it has to be better."
