Scotland fans urged to charge phones to avoid Hampden turnstile chaos for Northern Ireland clash

Scotland fans will need to have their phone batteries on full charge for the upcoming match against Northern Ireland. In the digital age tickets are morphing into QR codes on your phone screen.

A new app which has been launched, named Hampden Park tickets is available on the Google Play store and the App Store, and its first run is this Tuesday when Michael O'Neill brings his side to Glasgow for a friendly.

The national team are embarking on a new era as Scotland games will become 100 per cent paperless. This is like the style of ticket UEFA will use in Euro 2024. QR codes and downloaded tickets will be the only accepted way to enter the automatic turnstiles. The Tartan Army have been told to get their tickets in order well in advance of the match. The QR codes go live on the morning of the game but due to potential issues the fans need to be prepared.

The SFA website said: “We encourage all supporters to have their tickets download and/or transferred before departing for the stadium. Connectivity at the stadium may be intermittent, so it is strongly recommended to send/download tickets beforehand.

“Tickets within the Hampden Park Tickets App can be displayed without internet connection. If your mobile phone has run out of battery, you will not be able to display your ticket. You can either log in to another phone with your log in credentials and transfer it to a friend's account.

“From here, you shall be able to scan both tickets from the same mobile device. Alternatively, you can contact the ticket help point on matchday.”
