School CLOSED and homes without water as engineers scramble to Greater Manchester town

People have reported waking up without water in a Greater Manchester town, with at least one school closed as a result. Several residents in Heywood are either without water or with low water pressure this morning (February 6).

United Utilities says it is aware of an ongoing issue in the OL10 postcode area. Residents have reported having no water in the Hopwood area of the town on social media this morning.

Hopwood Community Primary School, on Magdala Street, has been forced to close due to having no water supply. The Tree House Cafe at Hopwood Park has also closed its doors due to the issue.

In an update online, a United Utilities spokesperson said: "We're investigating a problem in your area, which may mean you have no water, or low water pressure. We're sorry for the inconvenience, we’re working as quickly as we can to get your taps flowing again."

Eyewitnesses have also reported a water burst on Manchester Road. It's not yet confirmed if the two incidents are linked. United Utilities have been approached for further details.
