Sarah Healy sets new U23 national record in 1500m final at Muller Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham

Sarah Healy set a new Under-23 national record as she finished second in the women's 1500m final at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham.

The Dubliner finished in a time of 4:06.94 in the World Indoor Tour event, setting a personal best and crossing the line just 2.59 seconds behind winner Dawit Seyaum of Ethiopia.

The 21-year-old's time is also the second fastest Irish women's time ever over the distance after fellow Olympian Ciara Mageean.

It also comes just over a week after the UCD AC athlete had set her previous record time of 4.10.83 at the Mondeville Meet in France.

Elsewhere in Birmingham, Georgie Hartigan set a national record in the women's 1000m as the Dundrum South Dublin AC runner recorded a 2:40.01.

Tokyo 2020 Olympian Andrew Coscoran finished ninth in the men's 1500m final.

The Balbriggan native, who recently won the men's mile at the World Indoor Tour meeting in New York, finished in a time of 3:41.46 in a race won by Abel Kipsang of Kenya.

In the women's 60m, Molly Scott was sixth in a time of 7.33 seconds, while Sarah Lavin was fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.15.
