Ricochet sets new history making record with Intercontinental title win

New WWE Intercontinental Champion Ricochet achieved an historic first in winning the title on this past Friday’s SmackDown. 

Ricochet challenged for the Intercontinental Title on March 4, clashing with champion Sami Zayn. Beating ‘The Master Strategist’ thanks to a distraction from Zayn’s on-going rival Johnny Knoxville. Ricochet was able to roll-up Zayn to get the pinfall and become IC champ for the very first time in his career. 

In doing so, Ricochet made WWE history with a unique milestone. He became the first WWE Superstar in history to win the NXT North American Championship, WWE United States Championship, and the Intercontinental Championship. 

Something which was made aware to the new champion on Twitter by Wrestle Features, and the high-flyer acknowledged this achievement by replying ‘One and only!’.

Ricochet was the second-ever North American Champion when he beat Adam Cold for the strap at TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 in 2018 and held the belt until January 2019. He also had a month-long run with the United States Championship in 2019, after he defeated Samoa Joe at the Stomping Grounds pay-per-view. 

It has been recently reported that Ricochet is now positioned as the number two babyface on SmackDown, behind only Drew McIntyre. This explains the recent push up the card for the 33-year-old, one that could be set to continue on the blue brand. 

Meanwhile Knoxville’s involvement in the title match has led to the expected meeting with Sami Zayn being officially announced for WrestleMania weekend.
