Same old story for Stirling Albion as Binos crash out of Scottish Cup with Cove defeat

It was another frustrating weekend for Stirling Albion as they crashed out of the Scottish Cup – and for boss Darren Young it was a case of the same problems rearing their head again.

The Binos’ latest defeat – their second in a row to Cove Rangers across league and cup action – makes it six defeats on the spin for the Forthbank side, with the last four games seeing them rack up a dismal record of twelve goals against and just one scored.

Albion’s wastefulness in front of goal has been a theme for the season, with Stirling having the worst goals record by far in League One with just ten goals scored and cup action didn’t provoke a reversal of their fortunes in front of goal.

Instead it was Paul Hartley’s in-form visitors who showed their razor-sharp instincts in the final third via goals from Michael Doyle and Connor Scully to secure a trip to Brora Rangers in the fourth round.

After the cup tie, a frustrated Young said: “I feel like a broken record, it’s just chances once again.

“We’ve let them have a free header at the corner and go 1-0 up then we’ve missed a sitter with a chance from underneath the bar, had another couple of opportunities, finished the half strongest and were the better team in the second half.

“We miss a ball in the middle of the park, the boy runs through three tackles and puts it in – from our point of view, it’s a terrible goal to lose at any level.

“We just need one to go in off someone’s backside at the moment, we’ve had a few scrambles in the second half and had a few good deliveries which we’ve not got on the end of.
