Sam Tierney pinpoints the moment that 'killed' Leicester City against Everton

Foxes star Sam Tierney added a goal to her tally but could only lament the moment that "killed" Leicester City in their 3-2 loss away to Everton in the FA Women's Super League.

Jemma Purfield was first to strike for Leicester before Toni Duggan levelled proceedings on 32 minutes.

Tierney was able to claw one back one minute before half time, but a strike on either side of the break by Anna Anvegard ensured the Toffees walked away winners on a blustery day at Walton Hall Park.

“We are disappointed, we dealt with the conditions quite well. We adapted,” said Tierney.

“I think if you watch it back the desire from the team to keep going at the toughest moments was great. We took the game to Everton. There are positives to be taken from it. In this game we didn’t take the points but we have to start looking to next week now.”

Natasha Flint fed Purfield, who fired into the far corner to open the scoring on five minutes.

It took another 27 for Everton to equalise, Anvegard capitalising on a defensive mistake to provide Toni Duggan, who danced around Foxes keeper Sophie Harris and sent her effort into the empty net.

The Swede got her first only moments later. Finding herself with space in the middle of the park, she carried the ball forward before calmly slotting into the corner.

But the Foxes clawed one back against the run of play just before half-time, Ashleigh Plumptre winning the header from a free-kick, flicking it on to Tierney who nodded in the equaliser.

Everton re-took the lead after the break, once again through the aggressive Anvegard who took full advantage when the ball found her in the six-yard box.
