Sam Kerr scores double in Chelsea's 9-0 drubbing of Leicester City, while Manchester United draw over 20,000 fans to historic game

Matildas captain Sam Kerr scored twice as Chelsea thrashed Leicester City 9-0 to top the Women's Super League for the first time this season.

Remarkably, Kerr has scored against every Women's Super League team she has faced, and sits atop the Golden Boot standings as the league's top goal-scorer with 12.

Chelsea went 4-0 ahead after just 10 minutes, stunning home fans at Leicester City Stadium.

Kerr's first goal came within five minutes, hitting goalkeeper Demi Lambourne with her initial attempt, but scoring on the rebound.

Her second came just one minute into the second half, with a pinpoint cross from teammate Bethany England enabling Kerr to score a header to take her side to a 7-0 lead.

The win takes the Blues to top spot on 41 points, one ahead of Arsenal, with both teams having five games left to play.

Chelsea are due to meet the Gunners in the FA Cup semi-final next month, while Arsenal had their derby with Tottenham Hotspur called off due to COVID-19 cases in the Spurs squad.

Elsewhere, Manchester United defeated Everton 3-1 in the first women's match to be played in front of fans at Old Trafford.

The match saw a club record of 20,241 in attendance.

United faced West Ham at Old Trafford last year, but COVID-19 restrictions meant the game was played without fans.

«I think women's football won today,» Reds head coach Marc Skinner said.

«I think it shows the growth and the magnitude and the impact that this club can have in growing the game. That for me is a wonderful thing.

»What we have to make sure is that we capture this moment but we have to use it as a projection point to continue the growth of it.

«This is not a one-off and our club is going to be a really key part in helping to develop and push women's football
