Sam Lammers on Rangers Champions League collision course as striker who 'scores easily' proves plenty for Twente

Sam Lammers could find redemption AGAINST Rangers as he aims to fire new club FC Twente into the Champions League big time with Gers possible opponents on the way.

The Ibrox flop has ended his miserable season in Govan by signing a three-year deal with the Eredivise outfit. Having spent the second part of last season on loan at FC Utrecht, where he broke a club record, their Dutch rivals saw enough to persuade them to fork out an undisclosed fee to sign Lammers, thought to be in the region of £2.7million.

Lammers became something of a joke figure in Scottish football as he missed a number of seemingly simple chances and his paltry goal record did not improve in Light Blue and Philippe Clement soon decided he was surplus to requirements. But now Lammers could be on a collision course with his former club as Twente prepare to take on FC Salzburg in the third qualifying round. A win for the unseeded Dutch side could see them paired with Rangers in the playoff round should they overcome Dynamo Kiev.

"I have had several conversations with the trainer and Arnold recently,” said Lammers.. “I have a very positive feeling about that. In addition, the club FC Twente speaks for itself. What they are doing really appeals to me.

"We are definitely going to play European football and hopefully we will enter the Champions League. I will do my best to help with that. The ambitions of the club are big and that suits me. I will try to help with this with goals or in some other way on the field.”
