Sam Lammers drops smirking Rangers future hint as he names Utrecht 'addiction' but key hurdle remains

Rangers flop Sam Lammers has dropped a clue that he would like to remain at Utrecht - declaring that scoring in front of their fans is "addictive".

Michael Beale brought the Dutchman to Ibrox last summer from Atalanta for a fee in the region of £3.5million - but the forward failed to impress at Ibrox netting just two goals before new gaffer Philippe Clement called time on his spell in the Scottish Premiership and shipped him out on loan to the Eredivise. The 26-year-old has managed to revive his stuttering career with the Dutch outfit - netting three goals so far as Utrecht pull themselves up the table and away from the drop zone.

Lammers netted the crucial goal on Sunday in the 1-0 win over NEC which has put the club within touching distance of survival with boss Ron Jans now looking up the table. But the Rangers loanee was brutally honest over his performance - conceding he could have added to his tally on the day as he looks to kickstart his career.

However, he admitted he was loving life playing in front of the fans on home turf - inside the Bunnikside cauldron. Speaking post-match, he said: "It is the second goal that I have been able to score for the Bunnikside, so that is enjoyable.

"But I should perhaps have scored two more. But scoring for the Bunnikside is addictive. We are winning now, so I take it for granted. I am happy with the victory, but I still think about those missed opportunities."

However, if Utrecht want to sign the forward on a permanent basis they will have to splash the cash. The loan agreement does not hold an option to buy or a set fee the club must payout to the Ibrox side. That could present a major hurdle if Lammers does want to end his nightmare in Govan permanent.
