Salford duo ruled out for season, Paul Rowley confirms

King Vuniyayawa and Jack Wells have both been ruled out for the remainder of the season, Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley has confirmed.

Both forwards, Vuniyayawa had impressed in recent weeks after joining from Leeds Rhinos ahead of this season. Wells meanwhile had featured sporadically, also appearing for numerous Championship clubs as a loanee.

Speaking after his side beat Castleford Tigers at the AJ Bell Stadium, Red Devils boss Rowley told Love Rugby League their campaigns were done.

“You’d have to say that King was probably our form forward of the year and one of our form players,” Rowley said.

“He’s been brilliant but for the both of them it’s really disappointing. For them first and foremost, they’re very much a part of the team going forward for the rest of the year.

“We want them a part of it, we enjoy their company, and we value their input which is why they were both here today.

“It’s disappointing for them and disappointing for us because we were thin on the ground anyway in that department as well documented. To lose a couple more and – not to value one more than the other – but King was certainly in the form of his life, so to lose his meat and input in games is an absolutely massive blow for us to be honest.”

Self-admittedly, Rowley’s squad was one of the thinnest in Super League from the off. In recent weeks. Tyler Dupree has been recruited from Widnes Vikings to bolster the pack.

Rowley also confirmed post-match however that there aren’t the finances available to replace the missing players.

“No, there’ll be no more recruitment. We’ve got space but no money to bring anybody in.

“We’ll just chuck whoever we’ve got out there and have 100% faith and confidence that they’ll do their upmost best.
