Salford boss Paul Rowley addresses Elijah Taylor’s future

Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley has addressed the future of his captain in Elijah Taylor.

Taylor, 32, remains without a contract beyond the current season.

The forward made the move to England from the NRL with Salford ahead of the 2021 campaign on a two-year deal. He has made 26 appearances in Super League since his move, scoring once.

With the transfer market open in the sport allowing players to talk to rival clubs, Rowley has addressed the future of his captain.

“We take his thoughts on that and what he wants. We’ll have those discussions in-house, but I’m not going to jump on publicly on any of that information.

“What I’ll say is he’s my captain, so I respect him immensely. That answers everything you know.

“I don’t envisage needing to change him from being captain. He leads from the front, he’s a good person to have around and he provides quality.

“It’s a contract, it’s a salary cap but more importantly, it would be nice to even worry about salary cap, but it’s a budget. There’s a lot of things that go on.”

The former New Zealand representative has previously discussed his desire to remain at the AJ Bell Stadium.
