Ryan Kent to Leeds transfer latest as Rangers given good news with Jesse Marsch’s Dan James hint

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch has hinted Dan James will remain at the club beyond the transfer deadline – and that could spell good news for Rangers.

The English Premier League club were reported to be considering a swoop for Ibrox star Ryan Kent after failed bids in the past with the Elland Road side keen admirers of the tricky winger. He has entered the final 12 months of his current deal and is yet to strike an agreement over extended terms with Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side.

The former Liverpool attacker was wanted by Leeds back in 2020. But the player was happy to remain at the club under then boss Steven Gerrard. He initially brought him to Glasgow on a loan deal from his former club before shelling out a big fee to make it permanent. One man who had been linked with the Leeds exit door is former Manchester United man James, with Kent reported as a possible replacement should he depart. Tottenham had been named as an interested party, but it looks like he could be set to remain with his current club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Marsch said: "Like Dan [James], I think he has been a big part of what we have done here. Before I came and since I have been here.

"I don't anticipate big movements in the group but we just have to see what happens in the next 24 hours." Kent has been an influential figure since his arrival in Glasgow and he was instrumental in last season's run to the Europa League Final.

This season he has the chance to test himself against Europe's elite in the Champions League with Rangers coming up against Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli after dumping PSV out in the play-off round. He's provided three assists so far this season but is yet to find the net in his six appearances in all competitions.
