Ryan Kent reality check as former Rangers star summoned to crisis meeting over Fenerbahce form

Outcast Ryan Kent has been told to raise his Fenerbahce performance levels by boss Ismail Kartal after the former Rangers winger was bombed out of the Turkish giants squad.

Kent has been a regular since making the move to Istanbul at the end of his Ibrox contract during the early Super Lig and Europa Conference League fixtures but was left out of the squad entirely before the international break in the 1-0 win over Ankaragucu. It was a second blow for the Englishman who failed to make an appearance off the bench in the midweek Euro clash with FC Twente the Thursday prior - sparking doubts that the 26-year-old had a long-term future at Fenerbahce.

Kent left Rangers after a four year spell in Glasgow having lifted the Premiership title and Scottish Cup during his stint in light blue, while playing a key role in helping the club reach the 2021 Europa League final. However, he was not offered new terms by Michael Beale and now faces a fight to reclaim a place at Fenerbahce.

Kartal revealed to Turkish outlet Fotmac that he has now held crunch talks with Kent during the break in league action and challenged him to reclaim his spot. However, he insists that he will receive another chance during a packed campaign for the club.

Asked what he said to Kent during the meeting, the boss said: "I did not include you in the squad for tactical purposes. I said this that day as well. I say it again.

"Other names will not be in the squad one day. Don't be demoralised, keep working on your performance. As long as you work like this, you will get the jersey."
