Ryan Giggs' ex-girlfriend suffered panic attacks and 'horrendous' mental problems during 'living hell' lockdown, jury told

Ryan Giggs' former girlfriend suffered panic attacks and 'horrendous' mental problems while living with the former Manchester United star during the coronavirus lockdown, a jury has heard. Kate Greville is giving evidence for a third day at Manchester Crown Court as the trial continues.

He denies behaving in a controlling or coercive manner towards her over a more than three year period. He has also pleaded not guilty to headbutting her and elbowing her sister in the face during an alleged attack in November 2020.

The couple originally met in 2013 and began an affair when they were both married, jurors have heard. Prosecutors allege that Mr Giggs subjected her to 'systematic' physical and psychological abuse from August 2017 to November 2020.

Mr Giggs denies ever assaulting her and has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Jurors heard that the pair began living together for the first time at Mr Giggs' home in Swinton, when the coronavirus lockdown was imposed in March 2020.

Under questioning from defence barrister Chris Daw QC, Ms Greville denied that she'd moved in because he had a 'reasonably large house' with a garden. "I wanted to stay with him not because of the house, I wanted to stay with Ryan because we had just started our relationship again," she said.

The jury has heard that Ms Greville alleges Mr Giggs had previously been violent towards her in hotel rooms in Dubai and London. Questioning why she moved in with Mr Giggs, Mr Daw asked: "You wouldn't have done that if he was a serial and violent abuser, would you?"
