Rutherglen Glencairn snatch valuable point after boss' 'calm, composed' approach

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Joe Pryce reckons a calm and composed half-time team-talk paid off, as his side came from two goals down to earn a point for the second time in three games.

The Glens were trailing 2-0 at Drumchapel United on Saturday – just as they were at Maybole in a 2-2 draw on the opening day the previous week – but they came roaring back in the second half to earn a share of the spoils in the West of Scotland First Division clash.

A matter of seconds after the re-start, Sean McGuire pulled a goal back for the visitors and then, on the hour mark, Dom McLaughlin levelled things up at the Donald Dewar Centre.

Neither side could find a winner but Pryce was pleased to see his side add to their points tally, following their first win of the season last midweek when goals from Allan Woodhouse and Dylan Collins earned a 2-0 win at home to Renfrew.

The Glens gaffer said: “On Saturday, up against Drumchapel who are one of the favourites for the division, we didn’t start very well and gave away two cheap goals.

“But Drumchapel were the much better side in the first half and well worthy of their lead at half-time.

“So we came in at half-time and had a good chat with the boys. There was no need for any ranting or raving. It was just a really positive team talk.

“And the players took that out onto the pitch. We got a goal back quickly and within 15 minutes of the second half starting, we were level.

“It was a real ding-dong affair after that. Both goalkeepers pulled off some excellent saves and both teams created good chances.

“In the end both teams will be disappointed they didn’t win it, but neither team deserved to lose it.
