Ruben Amorim offers hint over Manchester United decision with 'comfort zone' remark

Incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has suggested the opportunity to take charge at Old Trafford is too good to turn down.

United struck a deal with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday to extract the 39-year-old from the Estadio Jose Alvalade and he has since admitted confirmation of his appointment could be delivered as soon as today (Friday).

United informed Sporting of their interest in triggering Amorim's €10million (£8.3m) release clause on Tuesday and have moved quickly to try and appoint him as Erik ten Hag's successor.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently in caretaker charge and is set to oversee United's next three matches ahead of the November international break. Amorim's first game in charge is poised to be United's trip to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town on November 24.

Although United are yet to confirm Amorim's appointment, he has already hinted that he will be succeeding Ten Hag at Old Trafford, admitting the time is right for him to step out of his comfort zone and accept a new challenge.

"I think all coaches need that (to step out of their comfort zone)," Said Amorim, as quoted by Maisfutebol.

"I think that in everyone's life, and in yours [journalists] too, there are times when we are doing very well in life but we are missing something or we want something or to prove something and we have to take a step forward in things that destabilise us, that we don't know if it will work or not, if we are or are not ruining what is good about us, but I think everyone feels that.
