Ruben Amorim could resurrect one Manchester United star's career as deadline set

Christian Eriksen is reportedly expected to leave Manchester United when his contract expires next summer.

The 32-year-old joined United after a spell at Brentford in 2022, becoming one of the first arrivals of the Erik ten Hag era after signing a three-year deal at Old Trafford on a free transfer. However, as per reports from Fabrizio Romano, the Denmark playmaker's United career is expected to end at the end of this season - with talks over a potential new contract yet to take place.

However, Romano states that new head coach Ruben Amorim will have an influence on Eriksen's future at Old Trafford as he prepares to officially begin his tenure.

Eriksen has been in decent form for United, this season, and is already on course to better his minutes across all competitions this time around. However, the Dane recently revealed that he is yet to begin discussions with Old Trafford officials over a new deal at the club.

"I haven't focused on it yet, and I haven't heard anything from the club," said the midfielder ahead of Denmark's UEFA Nations League game against Spain. "Right now it's just about football and then we have to see where we stand in January and for that matter in the summer.

"As a footballer, you just turn up and train, and then it is the coach who decides the team at the weekend. I have not set my hopes or expectations. It belongs to football."

Eriksen will be looking to continue his regular run of minutes when Amorim begins his tenure as their head coach against newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm).
