Ruben Amorim needs Man United star to do something he has not done in four months vs Lyon

With Joshua Zirkzee out for the rest of the season through injury, even more pressure now rests on the shoulders of Rasmus Hojlund to deliver the goods in front of goal.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, at yesterday's pre-match press conference, confirmed Zirkzee will miss the remainder of the campaign after suffering an apparent hamstring injury in Sunday's 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Zirkzee, who was recruited from Bologna last summer, pulled up sharply and had to be assisted off the pitch with just ten minutes of the second half played. The Dutchman had been recalled to the starting XI at Hojlund's expense to lead the line.

Amorim made five changes against Newcastle amid the importance of tonight's Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon at Old Trafford. His selection offered an insight into the XI that will most probably start against the French side.

Having started on the bench against the Magpies, Hojlund was always likely to come back into the team this evening and start up front. Now that Zirkzee's maiden season at Old Trafford has reached a premature conclusion, it is a cast-iron guarantee.

Having cut their attacking options in January, allowing Marcus Rashford, Ethan Wheatley and Antony to head out on loan, United are short on firepower. Hojlund is the club's only senior option to occupy the No.9 spot.

Chido Obi was not included on United's revised squad list for the Europa League ahead of the knockout stages commencing, meaning Amorim cannot turn to him for extra support in the attacking department.
