Manchester United predicted line-up vs Lyon as five players return and midfield call made
Manchester United will be determined to progress to the Europa League semi-finals when they face Lyon in the second leg of their quarter-final showdown at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
The tie is evenly poised at 2-2 following last week's first leg at the Groupama Stadium in France, meaning everything is still to play for in the quest to advance to the last-four of the competition.
Lyon grabbed a very late equaliser through Rayan Cherki after Joshua Zirkzee thought he had won the game for United with 88 minutes on the clock.
United followed that setback by losing 4-1 to Newcastle United in the Premier League at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon. Head coach Ruben Amorim rotated his pack for the trip north, making five changes amid the importance of the second tussle with Lyon.
Regarding the latest team news ahead of the clash with the Ligue 1 side, Amorim has confirmed Andre Onana will return in goal and replace Altay Bayindir after being taken out of the firing line at the weekend. Elsewhere, Matthijs de Ligt and Ayden Heaven will be unavailable, and Zirkzee is out for the rest of the season.
Ahead of being reinstated between the posts, Onana will be determined to atone for his two mistakes against Lyon last week and secure his first Europa League clean sheet since the 2-0 win over PAOK over November.
Amorim's decision to shuffle his pack against Newcastle offered an indication of what the starting XI might be against Lyon, meaning Harry Maguire is expected to be reinstated to the defence. He flanked Amorim at Wednesday's pre-match press conference and that was an indication he will start.
It is likely that he will start in the centre of the back-three, flanked by Noussair Mazraoui and Leny Yoro either side of him.
