Ruben Amorim can turn one player Erik ten Hag didn't want into Manchester United's most important

Ruben Amorim has jetted into England to begin life as Manchester United's new head coach.

The 39-year-old arrived in the country on Monday as a new Old Trafford era dawns. Amorim will be at Carrington this week to bed in during the international break ahead of his first match in charge against Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24. He inherits a side unbeaten in four matches under Ruud van Nistelrooy but still in the bottom half of the Premier League.

The new United chief has favoured a 3-4-3 formation for much of his managerial career and delivered some impressive results with that shape in Portugal. It is widely expected he will tweak United's formation at Old Trafford, which may well benefit some players more than others.

Summer signing Manuel Ugarte could well be a player to kick on under Amorim having made a slow start to his United career under Ten Hag. Ugarte was left out of four of Ten Hag's final five United XIs with the Dutch manager having been keen to move for Sofyan Amrabat or Sander Berge. But United struck a deal with Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day for a fee rising to £50.75million.

United sources stressed at the time of Ugarte's arrival that Ten Hag and the football leadership team were aligned on his signing. Agency sources familiar with the deal's development say Ugarte was more of a club signing.
