Roy Keane makes Raphael Varane prediction about his second Manchester United season

Roy Keane has predicted that Raphael Varane will become a staple Manchester United player next season.

The Frenchman’s debut season has been riddled with injury amid a time when United have been in disarray at times, especially in defence. However, Varane rounded off his home season n on a positive note by scoring his first goal for the club, sweeping home from a corner in the 3-0 victory over Brentford.

Varane will be hoping to build on the 27 starts (in all competitions) he has registered this term and replicate the form he showed while at Real Madrid. And former United captain Keane has backed him to do so — as long as he can get one thing right.

“I expect him to be a regular next year if he avoids injury,” he said. “That (goal) will make him feel better.

“He’s had a tough season. He’s done okay. When you judge the signings Man United have made, they’re coming into a poor team and dressing room.

“He’s come in at a difficult time, he’s had a few injuries and he’s not getting any younger.” Varane has been considered by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick to be Harry Maguire’s main defensive partner this season.
