Roy Keane hints at Sir Alex Ferguson 'disrespect' in meeting over Manchester United exit

Roy Keane has lifted the lid on his infamous exit from Manchester United.

The iconic midfielder won a litany of major honours during his time at Old Trafford, guiding United to Premier League and FA Cup glory on numerous occasions. Keane was a key part of the club’s remarkable success during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure before leaving for Celtic in 2005.

However, his exit from United has always been surrounded in infamy due to his interview on MUTV criticising his younger teammates and growing tensions between himself and Fergie. Keane discussed the topic of players leaving clubs on the Stick to Football podcast and admitted he felt disrespected by the manner in which the Reds handled the situation.

“I generally have no problem when a club tells a player [to leave the club] – it’s the game we’re in,” Keane told the Overlap, sponsored by Sky Bet. “For you [Ian Wright], they sat you down and had a chat - to me, at least, that’s kind of respectful.

“I’m getting called into a meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson and [chief executive] David Gill, and before I sat down, they’d already prepared a statement. This is my issue – they already prepared a statement, and they had the years wrong!”

Keane felt he was not alone in being subjected to United’s ruthless nature when it came time to move on star players. The pundit used Paul Ince, who was informed at a golf course that he was moving to Inter Milan, and Jaap Stam, who Ferguson met at a petrol station to inform of his exit, as further proof.
