Roy Keane blasts 'Man Utd are a Championship side' amid Chelsea display

Roy Keane labelled Manchester United a ‘Championship side’ after their poor first-half display against Chelsea.

United and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw as Cristiano Ronaldo cancelled out Marcos Alonso’s strike in the second half.

The Red Devils were second best throughout the match though and if it wasn’t for David de Gea pulling off a string of saves in the opening 45 minutes Chelsea could have put the game to bed.

With Champions League football looking out of reach, former United midfielder Keane slammed the efforts of the home side’s players at half-time.

‘I think their heads are gone,’ he said on Sky Sports.

‘They are easy to play against, they don’t run back with any intensity. There is no surprise in what we have seen tonight – it reflects where this group is.

‘They are shot to pieces.

‘It’s like an FA Cup tie…it’s like Chelsea are a top team and Manchester United are a Championship side – they are short on quality and just staying in the game.’

His thoughts were echoed by his former team-mate Gary Neville, who sais he was ’embarrassed’ by players not showing enough effort.

‘Chelsea deserve to be ahead,’ Neville said at half-time.

‘United are the type of team for any football fan watching that you almost want to get beat.

‘They need beating because they set a really poor example around work ethic and trying – and all the things that parents and teachers tell their children every single day.

‘This lot get paid a fortune and they are walking. Embarrassed.’
