Man City defender Kyle Walker told he is best England right-back ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold

England are spoilt for choice at right-back going into this year’s World Cup.

Gareth Southgate has no fewer than four top-class players to choose from in that position. Kieran Trippier and Reece James are among them but the debate around who should start seems to centre around Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Liverpool full-back is hailed for his attacking prowess but is often criticised for his defending capabilities. Meanwhile, Walker is lauded for his pace and tackling but hasn’t been able to pull up the attacking stats of his Liverpool counterpart.

But for former England World Cup defender Danny Mills, there is only one clear choice. “Kyle Walker for me, I still think he is the best mix of all attributes for what you need,” he told MEN Sport (via FreeSuperTips).

“As a right-back in a back four I think he's the best option by far, he's the best defensively and can offer a lot going forward. He has tremendous pace to cover round as well.

“The argument is around Trent Alexander-Arnold going forward and his attacking prowess which I get completely. But I still think the way Liverpool play suits his style and he still gets caught out from time to time.”

England usually adopt a five-at-the-back approach at major tournaments with Walker playing as the right-sided central defender. Many would expect Alexander-Arnold to play in the right wing-back position but Mills believes Tripper could give him a run for his money.
