Roy Jones Jr insists Canelo's loss to Dmitry Bivol won't harm his legacy in the slightest

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez‘s legacy won’t be tarnished despite his most recent setback against Dmitry Bivol according to Roy Jones Jr.

The Mexican superstar suffered a shock defeat at the hands of the Russian rendering his ambitions of becoming a two-weight undisputed world champion at both super-middleweight and light-heavyweight obsolete for the time being at least.

The dominant one-sided nature of the loss means Canelo Alvarez now needs a miracle if he is to avoid a second straight defeat in their inevitable rematch after suggesting he will activate a clause in his contract to see them go at it again for a second time.

But former four-weight world champion Jones Jr believes Alvarez’s legacy is already secured having won world titles at super-welterweight, middleweight, super-middleweight, and light-heavyweight.

And even the manner of this defeat has not harmed his reputation in the slightest.

Jones told TMZ Sports: “You can’t say it affects his legacy because Canelo has done a lot of good things.

“He’s been a consummate professional since he was 15 years old.

“Canelo has treated us to so many fights, so many big fights, so many big nights that I can’t really see it bothering his legacy.

“Not everybody is made to move up in weight like that, you understand me?

“There are a lot of key factors that people overlook sometimes when they’re looking at guys who are trying to move up in weight.

“There are certain things that some guys just don’t do a lot of and you have to be a really skilled guy in boxing to understand that.

“I understood that, so that’s why I knew that to beat a guy like Bivol, it was going to be really tough.
