Roy Jones Jr calls out Anderson Silva for boxing match after UFC legend shines vs Bruno Machado

Roy Jones Jr called out UFC legend Anderson Silva to a boxing match after The Spider rolled back the years against Bruno Machado.

The pair officially fought to a draw on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather‘s exhibition bout with ‘Dangerous’ Don Moore at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on May 21 – but it really wasn’t close in the slightest.

Brazilian Silva, 47, has found a new lease of life after being released by the UFC in 2020.

On Wednesday night, Jones Jr – who currently trains Chris Eubank Jr – posted a picture of himself on his official Instagram account dripping with sweat, before calling out Silva to fight in the ring.

The 45-year-old wrote: “I see y’a Anderson.

“I’m impressed so I ain’t gone sleep on y’a. Just in case. Lol.

“Stay ready so I don’t have to get ready. Lol.

“But good work though. Congratulations.”

The pair have previously expressed interest in fighting each other, but nothing has ever come to fruition.

Silva, however, recently changed his tune, as he appeared to suggest that the matchup was no longer feasible.

The Spider said: “I’ve been talking about this fight for many, many years ago,”

“First of all, I respect and I’m a big fan of Roy Jones.

“I try to copy Roy Jones in my entire life because he’s amazing, and I respect Mr. Roy a lot, and I don’t think this fight would happen right now.

“But I keep in touch with Mr. Roy Jones a lot and he talked to me when I fought Chavez Jr. and he gave me good luck.

“But I think the fight is not happening anymore. I respect him a lot, and I’m a big fan. I follow Roy my entire career when I started my amateur career, and I’m so happy to try to do the same that Mr. Roy Jones did inside the ring.”
