Rotherham fan goes viral for booting the ball away from the penalty spot vs Accrington

Rotherham United currently sit at the top of League One, six points clear of Wigan Athletic, who trail them on the second rung of the table.

While Wigan have three games in hand over Rotherham, The Millers have now won four of their last five league games and look set to be on course for promotion back to the Championship.

Their latest win came on Saturday against Accrington Stanley in rather controversial circumstances, with the South Yorkshire side surviving a late scare to hold out for a 1-0 win.

But that could have been a very different narrative had a fan not run onto the pitch in the 87th minute of the game.

While The Millers took the lead through an exceptional volley from midfielder Daniel Barlaser, Accrington pressed for an equaliser and pumped a looping ball into the Rotherham penalty area which goalkeeper Josh Vickers failed to claim.

Seeing the R’s defence in disarray, Accrington flooded the box with Korede Adedoyin punching a close-range effort at the goal.

But in a last-ditch attempt to stop the goalbound shot, Rotherham centre-back Richard Wood illegally used his hand to block the strike and was subsequently sent off by the referee.

Accrington were then awarded a penalty and midfielder Harry Pell stepped up to take the set shot.

But before the referee could blow his whistle, a fan ran onto the pitch from behind the goal and walloped the ball downfield.

Chaos then ensued, with the fan colliding into the penalty taker before sprinting off downfield, hilariously being chased by both sets of players.
