Ross Wilson's hidden Rangers impact as ally provides peek behind the curtain after 'right' Nottingham Forest call

Ross Wilson's time at Rangers looked to be coming to a natural conclusion - but a former colleague insists flak for transfers also comes with credit in the bank behind the scenes.

The 39-year-old has left Ibrox for Nottingham Forest off the back of criticism from fans, who have launched protests against him this year. Wilson arrived in Glasgow during 2019 and twice broke their record for a transfer fee received with the sales of Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey, while he has overseen the development of the Rangers Training Centre.

But fan ire was hard to ignore and Stephen McGinn- the Falkirk captain who worked with the 39-year-old during his role as Football Business Director - insists that it's a good fit for all. He told Go Radio: "The way the Ross Wilson story broke was that it was a rumour on Twitter that gained momentum. Ross Wilson's time at Rangers had come to an end, the way it got with the fans and he had been there for a few years now.

"I think it is the right move for both parties. I worked with him at Watford and know how good a job he does behind the scenes.

"He did some impressive work at Watford but up here we can only judge him on his recruitment and the last couple of windows haven't worked. But by all accounts, I have been to Murray Park for some reserve matches and friendlies, there has been a massive upgrade at the training ground, the stadium looks better.

"Behind the scenes by all accounts he has driven things upwards but we don't know who does what at football clubs. And he has taken a lot of the criticism for the last two transfer windows."
