Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin hit with hefty ban over post-match comments

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin has been handed a six-game ban with two more suspended until the end of the Scottish Premiership season after comments about Hibernians' Ryan Porteous in which he accused the player of cheating.

The former Republic of Ireland international made the remarks following the match between both clubs on 17 September, which saw Hibernians awarded a first-half penalty after Ireland defender Liam Scales - on loan at Aberdeen from Celtic - was adjudged to have fouled Porteous whilst defending a corner, subsequently incurring a second yellow card.

The Dons had been leading 1-0 at the time of the ex-Shamrock Rovers player's dismissal and Hibs went on to win the game 3-1.

At full-time, a furious Goodwin told BBC Sport: "You are always worried who is marking Ryan Porteous because you know what he is like, he's won so many free-kicks and penalties for his conning of the referee, he goes over very easy.

"People will say that's sour grapes on my part, but I don't care because today that's cost my team at least a point, if not three."

A notice of complaint was served to Goodwin by the Scottish Football Association with an alleged breach of disciplinary rules 73 and 77 and following a hearing on Thursday, an eight-game was imposed on the Waterford native with two of those suspended until the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.
