Rory McIlroy rubbishes LIV Golf rumours as PGA stalwart nails his colours to the mast

Rory McIlroy has rubbished rumours that he's set to join LIV Golf in a $850millon mega move.

The Northern Irishman has made his feelings clear on the Saudi breakaway tour, being an outspoken critic of their approach over the last two years. That's why the golfing world was shocked when reports emerged that he was set to ditch the PGA Tour and join Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm in making the switch.

Rahm had previously pledged his loyalty to the PGA, until LIV made the Spaniard a massive $400m offer that he couldn't refuse, and made the transition last December. But McIlroy insists he has no plans to follow Rahm, not will he ever as he commited the rest of his career to the PGA. McIlroy, fresh for a disappointing showing at the Masters over the weekend, insisted he'll never waver, but wouldn't blame any of his peers for deciding to take the cash and defect.

Speaking at the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, he told Golf Central: "I honestly don't know how these things get started. I've never been offered a number for LIV and I've never contemplated going to LIV.

"There have been so many rumours of guys going but another thing I've realised is guys need to keep an open mind. I'm sure there are players who are still playing on the PGA Tour that have talked to the guys from LIV
