Rodgers notes missing quality that would have made things ‘easier’ for Leicester despite decent display

Brendan Rodgers admitted that Leicester City were lacking a bit of attacking quality in their goalless draw with PSV Eindhoven, despite what he described as a “good performance”.

Leicester City could not find a way past PSV in the first leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-finals. Nor could their visitors break their deadlock. It means they will meet again in the Netherlands next week with the tie remaining all square.

Kelechi Iheanacho went close for Leicester City in the first half, but fired wide, before Harvey Barnes had another good chance that hit the crossbar.

But both goalkeepers kept clean sheets in the end, leaving it all to play for next Thursday in the return fixture.

For Leicester manager Rodgers, denying PSV any goals was a positive outcome. However – in the continued absence of Jamie Vardy, incidentally – he felt they could have taken more care up front to avoid the same fate themselves.

Rodgers told BT Sport: “It’s a good performance.

“There were not too many chances. PSV had an early one but apart from that I thought we defended strongly.

“There were not too many chances in the game. Maybe a bit more quality in the final third would have made it a bit easier for us.”

He continued: “We just lacked that bit of quality up there. We just didn’t have that extra final bit of quality to create that chance.

“There was no surprise in terms of PSV. They have good players and are a threat on the counter attack.

“Domestically PSV score a lot of goals home and away but we restricted them to not so much.”

Before they meet again next Thursday, Leicester have a league fixture against Crystal Palace to contend with on Sunday. PSV, on the other hand, will go up against RKC Waalwijk on the same day.
