Two options for Leicester City as Brendan Rodgers brushes off formation fans want to see

When Leicester City stormed to the FA Cup last season, they did so with two up front.

Brendan Rodgers had changed his system following an injury to Harvey Barnes, with Kelechi Iheanacho paired with Jamie Vardy in attack, and with a back three deployed in defence. They produced some terrific performances using that system, including the quarter-final win over Manchester United, while they were potent in attack with Iheanacho enjoying a hot streak in front of goal.

There have also been occasions where it has been used this season, Rodgers changing to a back three for the 4-2 victory over United in October. He also tried two up front by using a midfield diamond, most notably in the games against Liverpool in December, when they drew 3-3 in the Carabao Cup before losing on penalties, and beat them 1-0 in the Premier League.

The team’s playing well, it’s just missing that final bit of energy in the final third, which is natural, because these guys have given so much.”

As food for thought, here’s a look at two ways City could line up with two strikers, and what it might mean for the team’s performance. Could either of these tempt Rodgers to change?

The immediate issue City have
