Robert Snodgrass 'devastated' at Open Goal fans booing as Si Ferry fires back at Hydro critics

Open goal host Si Ferry revealed Robert Snodgrass is "devastated" after he was met with boos during the popular podcast's live show at the Hydro.

Snodgrass joined the likes of James McFadden and Gordon Strachan along with the regular panel of Ferry, Paul Slane, Derek Ferguson and Kevin Kyle in Glasgow for a show that was billed as a pre-tournament warm-up for the Tartan Army before Steve Clarke's side head off to Euro 2024. However, things turned sour for former Scotland hero Snodgrass with boos ringing out as his attempt to tell humourous tales of his playing career to the 13,000 punters in attendance fell flat.

During the event Ferry tried to calm the crowd and allow the former Hearts and West Ham star to finish his stories - but that didn't stop clips from the nightmare appearance on stage circulating on social media. Since then, Snodgrass has deleted his X account following a backlash from fans. And now speaking on the Open Goal podcast, the team mounted a defence of the 36-year-old. Ferguson said: "Maybe he was a wee bit taken aback with the crowd."

Ex-Hearts and Rangers frontman Kyle went on: "It's like when I first started doing speakers nights. I used to tell the story in my head but when I got out and delivered it I thought 'oh f***, I went over the top with that'. In my head I had seen how it was going to pan out. I think that is all that Snoddy did.

"He went out there with a story that was very a funny story when he told us it. What he tried to do was get everyone involved and he ended up losing himself.

"He forgot where he was and then he was trying to find it and take it back. It's hard because you have a group of guys there and women that have maybe had a drink and don't have that attention span at
