Rob Dickson and Sean Waddilove into Gold fleet final at World Championship

Ireland's Rob Dickson with Sean Waddilove are through to the Gold fleet final round at the Allianz Sailing World Championships in The Netherlands.

The Dublin skiff crew had first and second places on their third day of racing to complete the qualification in in sixth out of 83 entries.

They had a 12th place in the third race of the day which was a disappointment result as they and the second Irish boat in the 49er class both led away at the starting line.

But both ran out of wind briefly but long enough to be overtaken.

Seafra Guilfoyle with Johnny Durcan from Cork then got caught against the race marker buoy in very strong tide and have not made the `Gold fleet.

A rest day follows on Monday for the skiff event. Meanwhile, the single-handed classes started their qualification round which continues until Tuesday evening.

Carlow sailor Finn Lynch lies eighth overall after two races where he scored a 12th and a fourth for the day in the ILCA7 class.

Howth's Eve McMahon made a solid start to her event by placing eleventh in her 55 boat ILCA6 class.

However, the multiple Gold medallist at youth level incurred maximum points for early starting in her second race of the day.

She will be able to eventually drop that score but will have no room for further error to retain her hopes of qualifying Ireland for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
