Rob Dickson and Sean Waddilove miss out on medal race at World Championships

Ireland's skiff crew of Rob Dickson and Sean Waddilove were knocked out of the Allianz Sailing World Championships in The Hague after a disappointing day saw them miss out on a place in the medal race.

Dickson and Waddilove had a poor opening race of the day and finished last but might have withstood that result but for a starting-line disqualification in the race that followed.

The pair placed sixth in the final race but the return to form was too late to rescue their chances and even a race win would have been insufficient.

Adding to their woes, they missed qualifying Ireland for the Paris 2024 Olympics by one nation place though they will have their next opportunity in Portugal in three months' time.

Finn Lynch is the remaining Irish sailor competing in Gold fleet at the World Championships in the Netherlands.

The Rio 2016 Olympian is 33rd overall in the ILCA7 event, with four races to come over the next two days.
