Road closed after reports of crash following 'police chase' in Wythenshawe

The emergency services were tonight responding to a serious crash in Wythenshawe. It follows reports that a police pursuit ended with a car crashing into another vehicle.

The incident happened outside a parade of shops on Hollyhedge Road on Wednesday evening. Several police vehicles and at least two ambulances were at the scene.

A witness described how one ambulance rapid response vehicle was seen to leave the scene.

One carriageway of Hollyhedge Road remained closed tonight. Pictures from the scene showed a Vauxhall Corsa and Seat Leon have suffered significant damage following a collision.

Unconfirmed reports from the scene suggested at least one casualty was taken to hospital following a police pursuit which ended in the Corsa crashing into Leon.

One resident described hearing a 'loud bang' before seeing the two crashed cars, one of them on the pavement. Another witness told the M.E.N. one of the vehicles was being chased by a police car and that, following the collision, there was also a foot-chase.

One eye-witness, who was working in a takeaway Kebabilicious at the time, said: "I'm in the shop and heard a loud, loud bang. One car crashed into another and pushed it to one side of the street. There was a baby on board the Seat. It wasn't moving or crying. It was a scary situation for the family. The baby and the family seemed alright though."

Another source described how police were pursuing a car which was 'flying' along Hollyhedge Road and that it crashed into a Seat which was waiting to turn right.

The Manchester Evening News has asked Greater Manchester Police for a comment.
