Rio Ferdinand slams Glazers’ treatment of Manchester United fans during takeover process

Rio Ferdinand has doubled down on his criticism of the Glazers over their lack of communication with Manchester United fans.

The Glazers confirmed they were undergoing a ‘strategic review’ of their ownership in November. It remains unclear whether United’s owners are looking to sell the club or searching for fresh investment. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are understood to be two interested parties, but have both signed confidentiality agreements to avoid hampering the process.

Ferdinand recently slammed United’s owners for their ‘­undignified silence’ regarding a potential takeover and the former United defender has again called for improved communication with supporters.

“You know, when they do, I’m going to be the one saying, ‘I told you’,” Ferdinand told FIVE, amid suggestions that Sheikh Jassim is edging closer to completing a takeover.

“I don’t think [the Glazers] have respected the fanbase, personally. Communication is what I’ve been banging on about, just communicate with the people and let them know what’s going on with their club.

“That’s the thing they don’t understand, it’s [the fans’] club. They’re behind everything at the football club. The team, the manager and people behind the scenes run it but the fans are what make these clubs what they are. I don’t think they’ve been appreciated, respected or acknowledged in this whole process.

"Give them something to nibble on while this whole process is going on, explain why it’s taking so long. Let us know if you’re willing to sell now, just a little bit of communication.
