'Sometimes it comes across in the wrong way' - Dean Henderson sends message to Manchester United fans

Dean Henderson insists he will remain a Manchester United fan after leaving the club in the summer transfer window.

Henderson joined Crystal Palace in a deal worth £20million plus add-ons earlier this week, calling time on a 12-year spell with his boyhood club. He has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at Selhurst Park until 2028.

Having spent last season on-loan at Nottingham Forest, the 26-year-old had originally expected to return to the City Ground permanently. However, with Steve Cooper's side signing Matt Turner and United short in the goalkeeping department, there were murmurs he could have stayed at Old Trafford.

United had all but secured a £4.3m deal for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir towards the end of the window, allowing Henderson to move on and find first-team football elsewhere. But despite moving to a Premier League rival, he remains a United fan and vowed that his newborn son follow the same path.

“A huge thank you to everyone, from the bottom of my heart,” Henderson told MUTV. “I love the club and I'll keep supporting them. I've just had a little boy myself and he’ll be a Red. Thanks for everything and I wish you all the best for the future.

"It's a dream come true to have pulled on the shirt and played at Old Trafford in European competitions, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and most importantly the Premier League. That was something I really wanted to do from a young age and I’ll be sad to leave."
