Rio Ferdinand believes Bruno Fernandes is destined to become Manchester United's permanent captain next season.

Speaking on the latest episode of his FIVE podcast, the ex-United legend was in awe of Fernandes' contribution in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa. Erik ten Hag's side got back to winning ways after the disappointment of drawing away to Tottenham Hotspur, with the Portuguese international netting the winner.

Fernandes has worn the armband in the absence of Harry Maguire this campaign - with the centre-back's future at Old Trafford uncertain given his lack of minutes across the season. And Ferdinand, who enjoyed rubbing United's victory over Unai Emery's side in, feels Fernandes is absolutely ready to take on the responsibility.

"Unai Emery was producing miracles, and who steps up to stop him? Bruno." joked Ferdinand. "Sit back down, Unai! Have a reality check and know your place."

Garnacho progress admission

Alejandro Garnacho has thanked Manchester United for helping him become a 'totally different person and player' during his time at the club.

United completed the signing of Garnacho on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid in September 2020 and after progressing in the academy and winning the FA Youth Cup, the youngster is now an established part of the first-team squad.

It's understood that Garnacho, a naturally pacy and creative winger, initially surprised academy coaches with the rate of his development, however, he's now signed a new five-year contract extension in recognition of his progress.
