Rio Ferdinand makes stunning Trent Alexander-Arnold claim after Liverpool beat Rangers

Rio Ferdinand said Trent Alexander-Arnold will ‘go down as one of the best right-backs we’ve ever seen’ and ‘break all records’ after he starred in Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Rangers.

Manchester United news, exclusives and analysis

Liverpool cruised to a confidence-building win at Anfield on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

Alexander-Arnold, who has come in for criticism this season, gave Liverpool an early lead after beating Allan McGregor from 25 yards with a superb free-kick.

Salah put the game to bed shortly after half-time with an emphatic penalty after Luis Diaz was brought down in the box.

Liverpool have now amassed six points from their three Champions League games this season, although Napoli remain top of Group A on nine points having thrashed Ajax 6-1 this evening.

Manchester United legend Ferdinand singled out Alexander-Arnold for praise after Liverpool’s much-needed victory over Rangers.

He told BT Sport: ‘Listen, he’s going to go down as one of the best right-backs we’ve ever seen in England. He’s going to break all the records in terms of assists and goals [from a right-back].

‘Him and [Chelsea star] Reece James will go close together throughout their careers.

‘I’ve had some time with Trent and one thing he doesn’t lack is character and personality. This kid wants to be the best, he asks all the right questions about winning and sustaining performances at the top.

‘He’s got the taste of winning at Liverpool, he’s not going to let that slip.’
