Trent Alexander-Arnold brushes off criticism after Liverpool beat Rangers

Trent Alexander-Arnold has brushed off criticism of his performances this season after Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Alexander-Arnold gave Jurgen Klopp’s side the lead in the first half at Anfield with a brilliant free kick, while Mohamed Salah completed the victory from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute.

The 23-year-old has faced heavy criticism over his defending in several situations this term and is among the doubts to secure a place in England’s World Cup squad.

But Alexander-Arnold insists he is only focused on improving for Liverpool.

When asked about the criticism he has received this season, Alexander-Arnold told BT Sport: ‘No matter what I always try to think positively,

‘People say things but for me it’s about going out there and performing for the team.

‘That’s the only thing that matters is coming out here and getting the wins and helping the team win games.

‘Yeah, it’s been a slow start to the season for me but I’m looking to the rest of the season.’

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson also praised Alexander-Arnold’s performance and has urged his teammate to ‘switch off’ from the criticism he has faced this season.

‘I think you’ve got to give Trent license to get forward at times and produce what he can produce in the final third up the pitch,’ said Henderson

‘But I thought he was really good defensively as well tonight, he did the basics really well.

‘It was a really good performance so I didn’t have to cover too much.
