Ridvan Yilmaz sees Rangers revival earn Turkey recall as Ibrox defender given chance to stake Euro 2024 claim

Ridvan Yilmaz has seen his Rangers form rewarded with a call-up to the Turkey squad.

The left back has six caps for his country already, but was set to miss out on the upcoming friendlies against Austria and Scotland’s Euro 20204 foes Hungary after being left out of the latest squad. But the Ibrox defender has now been added after a double injury call off from Vincenzo Montella’s squad.

Roma’s Cengiz Under is out with a groin injury. Ferdi Kadioglu also misses out with a calf strain, and their absences have opened the door for Yilmaz and Oguz Aydin, who has also been called up. Yilmaz was hit with an enforced rest at the weekend after Rangers’ Premiership clash with Dundee was called off. He’ll now join up with the national squad before a return to domestic against at home to Hibs on March 30, then it's the crunch old Firm clash at home to Hibs on April 7.
