'Ridiculous' - Key Sheffield Wednesday man reveals his League One target

George Byers is determined to repay Sheffield Wednesday's loyal supporters by helping the club secure promotion this season. The stakes are high as the Owls target an instant return to the Championship.

Automatic promotion looks out of Wednesday's reach after a topsy-turvy campaign. But Darren Moore's men are in a strong position to qualify for the League One play-offs.

The Owls are fifth in the table, two points clear of seventh-placed Sunderland, with six matches left to go. "It (promotion) would mean the world to me," Byers told Yorkshire Live. "I can see the joy it brings to fans when we win games every week.

"It is a big drive for me. I want to get this club back to where it belongs and that's not in this league. The fans deserve more which hopefully we can bring to them.

"We have got that responsibility but they drive us on every single week. They turn up and there is 20,000 every week. It is ridiculous. The away support travels in their thousands every week. We can't thank them enough."

More than 5,000 Wednesdayites will be travelling to Bolton tomorrow afternoon to cheer on the team at the University of Bolton Stadium. It will be their largest away following in three years.

Byers said: "Some clubs don't even get 5,000 fans for their home games. Five thousands away fans is unbelievable and hopefully we can give them the three points tomorrow."

The 25-year-old says the "mood is very positive around the place" and he believes the Owls are in a "good place" to achieve their top-six objective.
