Rickelton onslaught sees MI Cape Town cruise to SA20 win over Joburg Super Kings
At Newlands
Ryan Rickelton was devastating up front as his 89 guided MI Cape Town to a bonus-point victory over the Joburg Super Kings in Saturday's SA20 encounter at Newlands.
MI Cape Town leapfrogged Paarl Royals to the top of the SA20 log with a commanding seven-wicket victory in front of a sold-out Newlands crowd.
Chasing a competitive 173 runs to win under lights, openers Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen's 70-run opening stand took the game away early on from JSK.
Van der Dussen hit 39 off 24 balls before pushing for a second and was ultimately run out at the strikers end by Devon Conway and Jonny Bairstow.
Despite the wicket falling, Rickelton carried on his onslaught and had support from Reeza Hendricks, as the duo put on a 90-run partnership to inch the home side closer to the target.
Rickelton was the main aggressor, blasting eight fours and six sixes for a stunning 89 off just 39 balls before he was caught in the deep off the bowling of Matheesha Pathirana.
Rickelton's dismissal saw MI Cape Town only needing 11 runs for victory, with Dewald Brevis hitting a quick 3-ball 8 and Hendricks' unbeaten 34 steering the hosts to a comfortable bonus-point win.

Earlier on, Faf du Plessis' majestic half-century steered the Joburg Super Kings to a competitive target of 172-5.
After deciding to bat first, Joburg Super Kings negotiated the powerplay unscathed as Du Plessis and New Zealander Conway put on a 97-run stand to silence the blue crowd.
Du Plessis brought up his seventh SA20 fifty as he smashed 61 off 38 balls, including six fours and three sixes before all-rounder Corbin Bosch got the much-needed breakthrough.
