MI Cape Town overpower Pretoria Capitals to complete unbeaten SA20 run at Newlands

A second-string MI Cape Town side put on a stunning display as the hosts overpowered Pretoria Capitals at Newlands on Sunday to finish on top of the SA20 log at the end of the league phase.

MI Cape Town won by 95 runs and completed their successful run at home, winning all five league games at Newlands.

It was a new-look MI Cape Town starting eleven as they rested majority of their players with only captain Colin Ingram, Dewald Brevis, George Linde, Delano Potgieter and Matthew Potts remaining in the line-up.

Three players went onto make their SA debut, including Piedt, 19-year-old rookie Tristan Luus and Englishman Chris Benjamin.

Chasing a competitive 202 to win in front of another sold out Newlands crowd, Pretoria Capitals run chase illustrated their struggling season as they were bundled out for 106 and end fifth on the log.

Making his SA20 debut, spinner Dane Piedt was handed the new ball and immediately struck as opener Will Jacks found an edge behind for a first-ball duck.

35-year-old Piedt then bowled a sweeping Steve Stolk for eight, which left Pretoria Capitals reeling early.

In the 5th over, all-rounder Linde saw three wickets fall as he picked up back-to-back wickets of Will Smeed (15) and Marques Ackerman (0). His hat-trick ball resulted in captain Kyle Verreynne's run out

Only four Pretoria Capitals batters reached double figures with New Zealand Jimmy Neesham top-scoring with 32.

Wickets fell at regular intervals for Pretoria Capitals as the target proved to demanding as Thomas Kaber (3/27) and Piedt (3/28) took three wickets apiece.
