Republic of Ireland striker Adam Idah commits to Norwich until 2028

Republic of Ireland striker Adam Idah has extended his contract with EFL Championship side Norwich until 2028.

Idah, who won the last of his 13 caps for his country against Luxembourg in November 2021, joined the Canaries in 2017 moving over from Corinthians in Douglas. He was promoted to the first-team squad under Daniel Farke, scoring a hat-trick on his full debut in an FA Cup game against Preston in January 2020.

The Cork native suffered a knee injury against Crystal Palace in February of last year, and it kept him off the field until August. He then had brief cameos against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup, where he scored, and Birmingham, but they would end up with the 21-year-old requiring surgery on his knee.

It meant another spell on the sidelines until his return against Swansea in early December. Since then he's netted one goal - at home to Reading - in nine appearances.

"I’m over the moon. It’s exciting for me and my family," Idah told Norwich City's website.

"The last year and a half have been tough for me but I came back and worked hard and now the club are showing a lot of faith in me by rewarding that hard work."

Head coach David Wagner added: "Adam is a player that I was very much aware of prior to joining the club.

"He has a raw, natural ability and is someone we’re really looking forward to working further with."

His return to fitness is a welcome boost for Ireland manager Stephen Kenny, who gave Idah his senior debut in March 2020 against Bulgaria, ahead of the start of the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign next month.
