Ryan Manning to leave Swansea as contract winds down

Republic of Ireland defender Ryan Manning is to leave Championship club Swansea City at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Swans from QPR in 2020, turned down the offer of a contract extension in December, and the Galway native will now assess his options come the summer.

Swansea boss Russell Martin, in confirming the player will be not signing any new deal, told BBC Sport: "He's not going to sign a contract here. I don't think there's any point in keeping talking about that.

"I love Ryan, he loves it here, but we've allowed the contract to go to the last year, or not addressed it properly in the summer, so we're at where we're at."

Manning started his career in the League of Ireland with Mervue United and Galway United, before securing a move to QPR in 2015. He had a season on loan at Rotherham United prior to his Swansea switch. The left wing-back has so far made 32 appearances in this campaign.

Manning has six Republic of Ireland to his name since making his debut three years ago. He will be hoping to force his way back into Stephen Kenny's squad for the upcoming friendly against Latvia and the Euro 2024 qualifier against France.

Martin, in praising Manning's contribution, added: "He has given us everything he's got, which is all we can ask for. He's got the right to go and see what's out there for him in the summer.

"We're exploring other options for that (position) for next season already. It's what we have to do, we have to be ready. It'll be a real shame."
