Rennes boss opens up on Jeremy Doku's future amid Man City links

Rennes manager Bruno Génésio has opened up on the future of winger Jeremy Doku amid reported transfer interest from Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola's side have been linked with a summer move for the Belgian following Riyad Mahrez's move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli. The Algerian completed his move to the Saudi Pro League outfit earlier in the window for a fee understood to be worth up to £30million.

Mahrez became the latest in a long line of high-profile players to move to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer where he will join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Robert Firmino, Ruben Neves and N'Golo Kante. It means there is space in City's squad to bring in a replacement before the window slams shut, with Doku one of the names being linked with a move to the Etihad.

Doku took to the field for Rennes' Ligue 1 opener against FC Metz on Sunday, bagging himself one of the goals in a dominant 5-1 win for Génésio's side. Following that game, the Rennes boss was asked about the winger's future.

Genesio said: "It all depends on the offer we are talking about. There are offers that are difficult to refuse, whether for players, a coach or other players in football.

"For the moment, we are not there. I’ve no information on what I read or hear. He’s a Rennes player, he showed it tonight. Until proven otherwise, he can be used."

ESPN reports City are 'working on a deal' to sign Doku from Rennes, with the French outfit reportedly keen to get a fee of at least £45million for the winger. City are also understood to be in negotiations to sign West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta.
